Overview

Brunei exhibits modest cyber development but these achievements are undermined by issues of government control, inefficiency and inaction. There are distinct cyber agencies and legislation, however the government departments are overly bureaucratic and the laws regulate in a way to limit government opposition and freedom of expression. Brunei engages with some domestic cybercrime threats but does not contribute to the effort on a regional level or take action on the issue of military cyber capabilities. High levels of regulation and government ownership of ISPs limit public awareness of cyber issues in Brunei.
